| Fractional Currency ShieldFractional Currency Shields were made by the Treasury Department in Washington in 1866 and 1867. The outside demensions of the shield are 20"'x25" amd pm tje sjoe;d are ,pimted 39 specimens of fracitonal currency. Each note was printed on one side only, so that obverse and reverse appear as separate notes. As made, the shields are covered with glass and framed. The treasury Department produced these for sale to banks so that they might detect counterfeit notes by comaparison with the genuitne notes on the shield. The come with three different color backgrounds: green, pink, and gray. |
